Just heard from our contacts at Redmond-based Pushing Boundaries that they will be featured at 9 and 10 p.m. tonight, Thursday, March 18, on Q13 Fox News and also on q13fox.com after tonight.
Pushing Boundaries is the only place in Washington state where people with paralysis — due to spinal cord injuries or neurological disorders — can receive intensive exercise therapies to help them gain mobility. The activities also prevent serious complications that can stem from inactivity, such as weight gain, heart disease, diabetes and depression.
The dedicated staff at this amazing non-profit organization hosts regular tours so that you can see what they do and how much of an impact it has on people with paralysis and their families.
Pushing Boundaries will host its second annual “Success Beyond Paralysis Fundraising Luncheon” at noon Thursday, April 29 at the Marriott at Redmond Town Center. There is no cost to attend the event but guests are encouraged to make donations that will dramatically change lives.
To learn more about Pushing Boundaries and the fundraising event, call Shawna Hanson at (425) 869-9506 or e-mail shawna@pushing-boundaries.org.

The Redmond Saturday Market is unarguably one of the city’s top attractions, both for local folks and others passing through — perhaps staying at the nearby Marriott properties or the new Hotel Sierra at Riverpark.
Held each Saturday, May through October, at Leary Way and Bear Creek Parkway, the Redmond Saturday Market features produce, specialty food items and arts/crafts, all grown or created in the state of Washington, along with free entertainment and great people-watching.
This year, the market celebrates its 35th anniversary with a grand opening ribbon-cutting at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 1.
A 20-piece pep band from Redmond High School will get the crowd revved up right after that ceremony.
A Redmond Fire Department truck will be on site all day, welcoming visits from kids.
KidsQuest Children’s Museum will also be there from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
From noon- 2 p.m. Joe Calhoun and the Lost River String Band will entertain on the main stage.
The Redmond Historical Society will hand out free cookies from 9 a.m.-noon.
Baby alpacas from the “Heart of Dreams” Alpacas will also make an appearance.
Lunch customers will be able to choose from pizza, tamales, crepes, kettle corn, shaved ice and baked goods.
Look for updates on the Redmond Saturday Market in the Redmond Reporter this spring and summer. In the meantime, you can sign up for a weekly electronic newsletter called The Market Thymes.

Since Redmond’s Underhill’s Furniture store closed last year, the quaint building in the heart of downtown Redmond has been dormant until recently. I wondered what was going on there, did some asking around and learned that the building will become the new location of the city’s Washington state liquor store.
I don’t know the opening date yet but do know that the Redmond Historical Society has been collaborating with the City of Redmond and Magellan Architects to incorporate some fun and educational Redmond history displays in the windows of the new store. I’ll bring you more information soon, but look for installation of the history displays to start in early March.

Once again, Cirque du Soleil will pitch its Grand Chapiteau (the distinctive blue and yellow big top tent) at King County’s Marymoor Park in Redmond, for the KOOZA production that opens on Thursday, June 3.
According to a press release, KOOZA is a return to the origins of Cirque du Soleil that combines the circus traditions of acrobatic performances and clowning.
“KOOZA is about human connection and the world of duality, good or bad,” said the show’s writer and director David Shiner. “The tone is fun and funny, light and open. The show doesn’t take itself too seriously, but it’s very much about ideas, too.”
Watch for more information in the Redmond Reporter, about this and other entertainment events that will make this city “the place to be” this summer.

On Jan. 27, we ran a story about a Redmond “Rocketman” whose design for a Space Shuttle Program commemorative patch was one of 15 finalists in a NASA contest:
http://www.pnwlocalnews.com/east_king/red/lifestyle/82813567.html

We heard from Dave Ginsberg this week that his design placed fifth among the top 15 finalists in the NASA employees’ “People Choice” voting. And he placed sixth among the top 15 in the unofficial collectSPACE “Fans’ Choice Poll.”

Ginsberg noted, “It was an honor to have had my design considered in such high regard by so many who cast their votes.” He added, “An e-mail I received from NASA says, ‘The quality of the submissions and the emotion behind the designs shows tremendous commitment and loyalty to the Space Shuttle Program. The judges were so impressed with the quality and imagination of the designs and found the task of selecting a difficult one.”
Ginsberg concluded, “Again, my appreciation goes out to all who voted for my design and provided supportive comments and critiques.”

Have you ever shopped for a date in Redmond?
A few years back, before Valentine’s Day, I wrote a series of stories called “Looking for Love in Redmond,” which profiled a number of local folks — of different ages and different stages in their lives, some widowed, some divorced, some just getting started in the dating game — about their experiences with the dating scene in Redmond.
It was fun to write and actually went on to win Third Place for Best Comprehensive Coverage in the Washington Newspaper Publishers Association’s 2008 “Build a Better Newspaper Contest.”
One of the questions I asked some single adults was whether they’d ever “shopped for dates” while cruising the aisles at a grocery store, hardware store or other location where it wouldn’t be totally obvious that they were flirting.
In other words, when you go to a “singles bar,” it’s assumed that you are single and hoping to meet someone special. At Safeway or Whole Foods? Well, people assume you’re there to pick up dinner, while picking up a date could be an unexpected bonus.
I was reminded of the “looking for love in everyday places” concept when I spotted this story written by a colleague from the Redmond Reporter’s parent company Sound Publishing. Jenny Manning of the Whidbey News Time wrote about an Albertsons supermarket in Oak Harbor that hosted a pre-Valentine’s day event with prizes and opportunities to chat with other shoppers.
Would this idea fly in Redmond? Would you be interested if one of the local grocery stores sponsored a “Meet Market?” Which store would be your pick and why? Ideas are welcome at mdecker@redmond-reporter.com.
And here’s a link to the “Meet Market” story from our sister publication:
But I’ll soon be interviewing a few individuals who can potentially put Redmond in a national — or universal — spotlight.
Christopher Lu, an eighth grader from Redmond, has been chosen as one of seven national finalists in the MTNA (Music Teachers National Association) Junior Piano Competition. The competition takes place in Albuquerque, N.M. this spring.
Also, local artist/designer Dave Ginsberg is one of 15 finalists in a NASA contest to create a patch commemorating the end of the Space Shuttle program, scheduled to fly its last mission later this year.
As another fun tidbit, Redmond High School student Peter Castro will be a cast member in SecondStory Repertory’s upcoming production of the romantic comedy-musical “She Loves Me.”
Watch for more info about that in the Redmond Reporter, too.

In the Feb. 2010 issue, the featured town is Waukesha, Wis. and a resident sings the praises of Waukesha’s historic buildings and shops, cultural festivals and parks and recreation amenities.
Wouldn’t it be fun to see Redmond spotlighted in Family Circle?
If you agree, send an e-mail explaining what you love about living in Redmond, along with a photo of your family, to hometown@familycircle.com.

But sometimes “holiday fun” is what you make it. Redmond’s Parks and Recreation Department is organizing some community events to celebrate Chinese New Year, Valentine’s Day and Mardi Gras. We’ll bring you more details soon.
Meanwhile, Everything Party at 17181 Redmond Way
http://www.everythingparty.com
offers a wide range of whimsical decorations and party favors for all those occasions — plus the Super Bowl, celebrity-ogling (watching the Golden Globes and the Oscars), President’s Day and more.
This Friday, Jan. 8, would have been Elvis Presley’s 75th birthday. There’s yet excuse to have a party.
If your business, school, church or club has a winter holiday event that is open to the community, the Redmond Reporter would love to hear from you.
E-mail details to mdecker@redmond-reporter.com.

Earlier this week, Hopelink public relations specialist Denise Stephens gratefully accepted a $1,000 check from the Redmond Police Department, to help brighten the holidays of community members who are facing hard times.
It’s certainly been a difficult season for the law enforcement community, too, in light of recent tragedies involving officers in the Puget Sound region. But that has not dampened the spirits of Redmond’s dedicated police force.
“We have been embraced by our citizens and this is a simply a way to let them know that we care about them,” Redmond Police Commander Shari Shovlin explained in an e-mail to the Redmond Reporter.
Shovlin noted, “Our department and its members feel very blessed this time of year and realize how lucky we are that we work for such a great department. Our department members are like family and as many families do, we exchange gifts letting each other know how much we appreciate each other. Instead of exchanging gifts this year, it was important that we let our Redmond community know how much we appreciate them — all of them. Knowing that many non-profits are in need this year, due to the economic times, our department members decided to give money to the food bank to help those that really need gifts, food and clothing.”
Kudos to the Redmond Police for their generous donation and for their positive attitude.
I will also add that when I visited Hopelink’s office twice this week, I was impressed by the number of people who were dropping off donations and the number of cheerful volunteers who were busily sorting the donations.
Christmas Day will come and go before we know it, but the need for your time, talent and gifts of food, cash — or whatever you can share with others less fortunate — will continue into the New Year.
Thanks to all who have demonstrated the true Christmas spirit through their kindness toward their neighbors — and best wishes for peace and prosperity in 2010.

In last Friday’s Redmond Reporter, our editor Bill Christianson wrote about an effort between the Reporter staff and the Redmond Rotary to identify and honor a Community MVP of the Year.
In case you missed Bill’s column, a nominee for this award should be a shining star who has generously given a large amount of volunteer time to a worthy cause in Redmond.
From my experience as a reporter in Redmond, I can tell you that this community is blessed with many wonderful and talented people who care deeply about their neighbors and making Redmond a terrific place to live, work and play.
Choosing just one exemplary volunteer won’t be easy, but that’s where you, our readers, can play an important role.
Take a moment to think about someone here in Redmond, at your office, school, church or club, who consistently and cheerfully gives back to the community in a meaningful way.
E-mail that person’s name and contact information, along with your name and contact information — and a brief paragraph explaining why the nominee is special — to redmondrotary@yahoo.com.
Nominations are due by Dec. 15 and the winner will be given an award at the Greater Redmond Chamber of Commerce Awards Luncheon on Jan. 20, 2010.

And the holidays can feel especially lonely for those who’ve lost a loved one or a job or are coping with chronic illness.
In this Friday’s edition of the Redmond Reporter, look for a wise and timely column by Patti Skelton-McGougan, executive director of Youth Eastside Services. She writes about letting go of crazy, unrealistic expectations for a “perfect” family holiday.
In a similar vein, a free presentation called “Surviving the Holidays with Your Health Intact” happens at 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 7 at Whole Foods Redmond Market, 17991 Redmond Way. Dr. Larry Silber, DC will offer tips to beat the blues and avoid weight gain between now and the New Year. For information, call (425) 881-2600.

You’re bored, you’re broke and your blood pressure is out of whack.
Walking is a no-nonsense, no-cost way to relieve stress, improve your health and help you to appreciate some local sights that you’re not going to see when you’re stuck in traffic or zoning out in front of the TV.
And the City of Redmond has just published two new “Walk Redmond” brochures (one for the East side of town, including Education Hill, North Redmond and the Sammamish Valley and the other for the West end, including Downtown, Grasslawn and Overlake).
These free publications include maps and facts about a variety of scenic walks, whether you’re only free for a quick jaunt or have time for a leisurely stroll.
Descriptions of each route include noteworthy landmarks or natural features. For example, do you want to shop along the way, check out historic buildings or gaze at wildlife?
Also included are icons showing which routes are wheelchair accessible, as well as caveats about routes which are very hilly or potentially muddy.
“Walk Redmond” brochures are available at Redmond City Hall, 15670 NE 85th St.; the Redmond Senior Center, 8703 160th Ave. NE; and at the Old Redmond Schoolhouse Community Center, 16600 NE 80th St.
For more information, call the city’s Parks and Recreation department at (425) 556-2311 or e-mail redmondparks@redmond.gov.
If you choose to walk in a commercial area of Redmond, look for a Redmond business directory and discount information at www.thinkredmond.com.

Last December, we told you about a valiant effort to make Redmond’s live music scene more vibrant:
In this economy, most of us have cut way back on entertainment, but the good news is that the venues we told you about in late 2008 are still standing — and yes, still serving up some great live music with either no cover or a modest cover charge.
Not all have professional bands on a nightly basis. Sometimes there’s an open mic, a community drum circle or other diversion.
But in this season of good will, getting out of your house, mingling with neighbors and supporting the local talent is a way to strike back against the pervasive doom and gloom.
Keep those good vibrations happening.

The Redmond Regional Library’s 2009 “One Book, One Redmond” program is coming to a dramatic conclusion — culminating with an author appearance by Timothy Egan at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3.
Librarian Andy McClung urges, “Arrive early to get good seats!”
Egan will answer questions about his award-winning book “The Worst Hard Time: The Untold Story of Those Who Survived The Great American Dust Bowl.”
If you’ve not yet read the book, a limited number of copies are available for check-out at the Redmond Library, 15990 NE 85th St.
Or you can pick up a coupon at the library, for a 20 percent discount on the book purchase, redeemable at Borders at Redmond Town Center.
In conjunction with the “One Book, One Redmond” program, there are two more free movie screenings at the library, related to the themes of the Dust Bowl and the Great Depression.
This Sunday, Nov. 22 at 2 p.m., the movie is “Sullivan’s Travels.”
The following Sunday, Nov. 29 at 2 p.m., it’s “Black Blizzard,” featuring Egan.
Three more book discussions are still to come:
Tomorrow night (Nov. 19) at 7 p.m., the discussion is at the library.
At 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 24, it’s in the City Hall lobby — with coffee and snacks! That’s at 15670 NE 85th St.
Last but not least, another book discussion will happen at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 30 at the Redmond Senior Center, 8703 160th Ave. NE.
In other King County Library System news, the Kirkland branch is re-opening on Saturday, Dec. 5.

Redmond’s Old Fire House Teen Center is accepting applications and resumes from students who are interested in learning about music event production and management, in conjunction with the annual Classic Rockathon.
The Classic Rockathon is a “Battle of the Bands” in which young musicians perform songs originally recorded between the early 1950s and about 1990 — and compete for fabulous prizes such as musical gear and recording time.
That’s right, kids. “Hey-Ya!” is not a classic rock song. But I digress.
Chris Cullen, program coordinator at the Old Fire House said interested students can get great hands-on experience in the music and media fields — and can apply that experience to culminating projects at school and/or other service requirements. It’s the kind of experience that can fatten up a college or job application, too. (You’ll learn marketing and public relations skills that will serve you well in many other arenas.)
For those students who are see themselves as philanthropists, last year’s Rockathon raised more than $1,500 for educational programs at the Old Fire House. Though the Old Fire House is well-known as an all-ages music venue, there are many activities to serve local teens with other interests, too. For instance, there are art and photography classes, skateboarding and martial arts training, college preparation seminars and so on.
Five students will be chosen from the pool of applicants for this opportunity. If you want to be one of them, you must submit an application and prepare to be interviewed by Chris Cullen, who is a super-nice guy.
Oh — and you must be between the ages of 15 and 19 to apply.
For more information, call (425) 556-2341 or e-mail ccullen@redmond.gov.
The Old Fire House is located at 16510 NE 79th St. in downtown Redmond and the Rockathon planning and production process will begin in early 2010. Good luck!

Scheduled to perform at tonight’s pre-Halloween bash at the Old Fire House Teen Center, local rockers Shotty — past winners of the Old Fire House’s Classic Rockathon — have had quite a year. And it’s not over!
The band was chosen for a summer program in which students from the Art Institute of Seattle worked on photographing, videotaping and marketing them. It was a win-win situation, with Shotty getting some great exposure outside of the Eastside and the Art Institute students getting fun, hands-on experience in media and marketing.
Also this summer, Shotty entertained medically fragile kids and teens at Camp Korey in nearby Carnation.
The band’s travels this year took them to Los Angeles, where they played at the famous Whisky a Go Go and Viper Room night clubs and were spotted by the president of Swinghouse Studios, who invited them back in December to record a few songs.
“The band is only playing out once a month, as they are hunkered down, working on their first album, hopefully to be released in the spring of 2010,” explained their manager Robin Fairbanks of Redmond.
Tonight’s show at the Old Fire House, 16510 NE 79th St., starts at 8 p.m. Admission is $6 and all ages are welcome. Along with Shotty, the live music line-up includes New Faces, Kung Foo Grip, Seahouse and other guests. For Old Fire House info, call (425) 556-2370.
To check out Shotty, visit http://www.myspace.com/shotty

Redmond High School (RHS) Theatre Arts Department will present “Pippin” Nov. 5-7 and 12-14 at the RHS Performing Arts Center, 17272 NE 104th St.
Performances begin at 7 p.m. and tickets are $10 for general admission or $7 for students or seniors. The box office opens at 6 p.m. and seating begins at 6:30 p.m.
I’m planning to attend a dress rehearsal next week and am eager to see the teens’ footwork. During the summer, I visited a jazz dance workshop at Redmond’s Gotta Dance, where students who planned to audition for “Pippin” were studying the distinctive style of choreographer Bob Fosse. It’s always fun to see a new generation getting excited about musical theatre icons who paved the way for others.
You don’t have to be a Redmond High parent or grandparent to enjoy great, low-priced entertainment at the high school. Show your appreciation for these starry-eyed young performers, especially when arts/entertainment organizations are struggling to make ends meet.

SSR’s improv comedy team offers a different improv comedy show every night at 9 p.m. on Fridays Oct. 30, Nov. 6 and Nov. 13; and at 9 p.m. on Saturdays Nov. 7 and Nov. 14.
Pinkalicious Cupcakes, a gourmet cupcake shop, will have a “soft opening” at Redmond Town Center on Halloween — that’s Saturday, Oct. 31. And yes, they’ve got flavors to tempt just about anyone. A grand opening is planned for the following weekend. I’m meeting with owner Margo Engberg soon and will share more details about her cupcake emporium, but for a sneak peek, visit:

According to the Redmond High School Mustang News, students at the high school are beginning Seven Days of Service today.
Monday’s mission is to collect paper towels for the Ronald McDonald House in Seattle.
On Tuesday, students will sign up to participate in a blood drive on Nov. 2. (Parent permission forms are needed if students are less than 16 years old.)
Wednesday is School Beautification Day. Students will pick up trash or do other cleaning projects.
Thursday, students will write letters to soldiers.
Friday will be a “Pay It Forward Day,” in which students are asked to do simple good deeds.
What a great idea — and we hope to hear from students or teachers about the ways that the Seven Days of Service made them smile and strengthened their resolve to set a shining example for the entire community.

There’s a definite chill in the air, but every dark cloud has a silver lining. Get out and enjoy the beautiful fall foliage while it lasts.
Teresa Kluver, an urban forestry expert for the City of Redmond’s Parks and Recreation department explained, “Fall color happens over several weeks and is generally stimulated by cold/frost-like conditions. Many of our parks and streets are planted with trees that exhibit great fall color. Grass Lawn should have the ashes turning brilliant yellow first, then the Maples will follow with their colors of yellow, oranges and red. Other plantings that have great fall color include the Sugar Maples along West Lake Sammamish Parkway and Bear Creek Parkway. Otherwise, every park has some trees that will be displaying their best fall finery over the next month.”
Where’s your favorite Redmond spot to admire fall foliage?

Tomorrow’s superstars of stage, screen and television might be today’s Redmond teens.
A few months back, a great group of young string musicians represented Redmond at Carnegie Hall. The Redmond Orchestra Boosters, who help to raise money for instruments, transportation, music scholarships, etc., will meet in the Redmond High School (RHS) Choir room at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12 to brainstorm on this year’s activities. Parents who value music in the schools are invited to get involved.
And the whole community can pitch in to support the RHS Theater Arts garage sale. Clean out your closets and drop off donations at the RHS cafeteria, 17272 NE 104th St. between 2:30-7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16. The actual garage sale is from 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17. For details (including suggested donations or items that can’t be accepted), e-mail julianna.castro@comcast.net.
“Pippin” is the upcoming fall musical at RHS and we’ll bring you details and photos later on in the Redmond Reporter.

If you dig grocery shopping and free food samples (and who doesn’t?), Redmond is the place to be this weekend.
Our very own, brand-new Trader Joe’s, 15932 Redmond Way, officially opens at 9 a.m. Friday, Oct. 9. Our staff will be there for the kick-off celebration, as will Redmond Mayor John Marchione.
I’ve already had a tour of the store, with Captain (store manager) Bob Jarchow — and can tell you that it’s bright, airy and full of beautiful art that depicts Redmond landmarks.
Trader Joe’s crew members will be cooking and handing out tasty morsels for your enjoyment.
If you’re still hungry, head east to Whole Foods Market Redmond, 17991 NE Redmond Way. They’re hosting a Customer Appreciation Weekend including store tours, a local vendor fair and Dinner on a Dime cooking demos, Friday through Sunday, Oct. 9-11.
Another chance to chow down in Redmond will benefit the
The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 2995’s Troop Support Program.
From 5-7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, stop by the post at 4330 148th Ave. NE for a complete lasagna dinner. It’s just $10 and kids 10 and under eat free. Such a deal! And your participation will help the VFW to send care packages to soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan, who are far from home and missing their own favorite comfort foods.
To learn more about the Troop Support Program, contact John Kenny at kjjkenny@aol.com or call VFW Post 2995 at (425) 883-2295.

Dance Sanctuary, a monthly, freestyle, family-friendly dance held at Redmond’s Enso Center for International Arts, will mark its first anniversary on Saturday, Nov. 14.
This Saturday, Oct. 10, from 8-10 p.m., the event will have a different look and feel than usual, according to Dance Sanctuary owner Nadine Bolliger. It isn’t a Halloween dance but will be called “Dancing with The Shadow” and will feature low lighting and darker music.
Other than this weekend’s event, Dance Sanctuary, Bolliger tells us, allows people of all ages, including children, to dance and express themselves in a safe, casual environment, with “wildly uplifting music.”
That includes World music, drumming, techno, pop, salsa, funk, R & B and more. Most of the music is instrumental — and if lyrics are included, they must impart a positive message. Music starts out mellow and intensifies as the evening goes on. It slows down again at the end.
Kind of like an aerobic workout, complete with warm-up and cool-down!
When you’re not dancing, you can play percussion instruments, test your hula-hooping prowess, sketch or write notes in a dance journal at Dance Sanctuary. It’s all about self-expression and stress relief.
Bolliger, by the way, has participated in Nia dancing at the Redmond Senior Center, drum circles at SoulFood Books in downtown Redmond and Ecstatic Dance in Seattle, before opening Dance Sanctuary.
To learn more about Dance Sanctuary, call Nadine Bolliger at (425) 830-1481 or e-mail DanceSanctuary@gmail.com.
The Enso Center for International Arts (home of Dance Sanctuary and much more) is located at 9215 195th Ave. in Redmond. For Enso information, call (425) 861-8222 or visit www.enso-center.org

Do you believe there are ghosts among us, perhaps lurking in some of downtown Redmond’s famous old buildings? Would you be scared if you encountered them or would you find the experience exciting?
Watch for the story, coming soon in the Redmond Reporter. And if you have stories about supernatural happenings in our fair city, let us know!
This weekend, though, show some love for our talented young people. The Old Fire House Teen Center, 16510 NE 79th St., hosts a free Teen Arts Festival from 7-10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2 and 5-10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3.
Stop by to admire visual art, photography, spoken word and music performances. All ages are welcome.

As the great philosopher Ferris Bueller said, “Life moves pretty fast. You don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”
This new blog, “La Vie en Redmond” is devoted to helping you find the events and activities that make life in Redmond more colorful. The term arts and entertainment is being used loosely, because it’s not just structured or rehearsed presentations that inspire us — or get us through a stressful day.
It could be anything, from a carnival to a cooking demo or even a prime place for people-watching, that lifts our moods or reminds us to “live a little.”
I’ll share my knowledge of upcoming or ongoing diversions here in Redmond and invite you to share yours, too.
For starters, a couple of Redmond-based arts organizations are “takin’ it to the streets,” or at least, moving to new venues for some performances this fall.
SecondStory Repertory, the professional theater at Redmond Town Center, recently kicked off its reading series to increase audience participation. The first time around, a handful of actors known to SecondStory Rep fans read the script for the kooky comedy “Boeing! Boeing!,” to gauge whether folks might like to see it staged as a full production, sometime in the future.
What’s up next? SecondStory Rep will bring a very informal presentation of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” to SoulFood Books and Cafe, 15748 Redmond Way, at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23. It’s a way to test that show on a crowd that might not otherwise be engaged. Plus, the owners of SoulFood are passionate about making their space a real community gathering place.
Then, on Saturday, Oct. 24, SecondStory Rep will be part of the big Zombie Block Party, featuring a “Thrill The World” tribute to Michael Jackson at Redmond Town Center. We’ve mentioned that event in our print editions and the Redmond Reporter Web site, but there’s new information that SecondStory Rep will also bring a group of performers to do “The Time Warp” from “Rocky Horror Picture Show,” to make it even more of a fun, pre-Halloween phenomenon in Redmond.
On another note (pardon the pun), the Redmond-based Eastside Symphony and Concert Opera of Seattle, both conducted by local resident Alexei Girsh, will team up to perform Giuseppe Verdi’s “Rigoletto” at the Redmond High School Performing Arts Center, 17272 NE 104th St., at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21. And for the first time this year, the Eastside Symphony’s popular holiday concert will also take place at the Redmond High Performing Arts Center instead of the Redmond Senior Center.
The symphony’s holiday concert is at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13.
We’ll bring you more details, closer to those dates.
Have a favorite Redmond hang-out or diversion you’d like to discuss? Comments are welcome here!
